Our vision in 学术事务 is to create an innovative, 包容, and globally-focused learning environment for 教师, 工作人员, 和学生. We achieve this vision by hiring the most talented and diverse 教师 and 工作人员, educating our undergraduate and graduate students, and engaging with the local, 区域, 国家, and inter国家 communities.

ODU's 教师 and 工作人员 includes outstanding teachers, 科学家们, 研究人员, and experts in a variety of academic disciplines and technical fields, all of whom are enthusiastically committed to providing undergraduate and graduate students with top-quality education they will need to live and work in an increasingly interdependent and culturally diverse world.

As Provost and Vice President for 学术事务, I am responsible for working with the President, 其他副总裁, and 教师 leaders to set academic priorities for ODU's Norfolk main campus and its Virginia Beach, 半岛, and Tri-Cities Higher Education Centers. Other major responsibilities include: development and delivery of quality undergraduate and graduate educational programs, 通过在线, 面对面的, or blended learning modes; development and implementation of 包容 policies relating to the recruitment, retention and success of 教师 and 工作人员 in 学术事务; development and allocation of resources to foster excellence and innovation in 教师 and student engagement in research and scholarly activities; enhancement of opportunities for collaboration with industry and state and federal agencies; advancement of ODU's cultural and artistic endeavors, and community engagement; development of inter国家 partnerships for students and 教师; maintenance of accreditation from 区域 and 国家 oversight accrediting agencies; and overseeing and supporting the 大学图书馆.

The administrative 教师 and 工作人员 of 学术事务 work closely with ODU's 研究处 to support the successful operation of research programs, and with the 办公室 of Development, 预算及财务, and others to ensure sound financial management for ODU's academic offerings. We also work closely with the Division of 学生参与 and Enrollment 服务s on the University's Student Success Initiative, and together we develop and implement strategies promoting student achievement. We work as well with ODU's 教师 Senate to strengthen the graduate and undergraduate curricula, provide professional development opportunities for our 教师, and develop and implement policies and practices based on ideals of shared governance.
